The hip-hop community is calling for the firing of Fox News host Laura Ingraham, after the reporter seemed to mock Nipsey Hussle‘s death just hours after he was laid rest on Thursday in Los Angeles.
During Friday’s segment of the Ingraham Angle, the host acknowledged how Hussle’s memorial service drew thousands, but also used the opportunity to slight the Grammy-nominated lyricist.
“Now, this dear artist recently released a song called ‘FDT’ – F Donald Trump. Now’s that a creative refrain,” Ingraham sarcastically remarked before proceeding to play a clip of the accompanying music video.
She continued, “So… the chorus…it goes on and on. Is that related to the lowest unemployment ever basically for African-Americans?” and then chuckled with her co-host, Raymond Arroyo.
“FDT” is actually a song by Hussle’s friend and frequent collaborator YG. While Hussle is featured on the record, the short clip that Ingraham aired only showed YG.
As Ingraham’s remarks began to circulate online, several of Hussle’s peers blasted the reporter via social media.
Game, a close friend of Hussle, took to Instagram to call for Ingraham’s firing.
“So lemme tell you what’s going to happen here…. @foxnews fires this disrespectful c*** by tomorrow,” the “Jesus Piece” artist posted on Sunday. “We are NO LONGER laying quiet while you continuously disrespect our brother, culture, African-Americans as a whole.”
T.I. shared similar sentiments.
“Neither of you will ever know or experience the level of love, appreciation and respect that Nip has…even in death!!” the pioneering rapper captioned a clip of Ingraham’s comments.
R&B crooner Tank also called out the reporter and shared a link to a petition calling for Ingraham’s firing. The petition has currently surpassed its goals of 1000 signatures, amassing well over 13,000.
