Could a feud be brewing in Toronto? Some of The Weeknd‘s fans think so: They’re interpreting the singer’s latest effort, “Lost in the Fire,” as a direct criticism of Drake.
The collaboration with French DJ Gesaffelstein, contains a few lyrics that are being decoded as disses towards the OVO head honcho. In the first verse, The Weeknd sings of his admiration for a woman and croons: “And I just want a baby with the right one/’Cause I could never be the one to hide one.”
Last year, Drake was embroiled in controversy after he was revealed to be a father to a son, Adonis, during the height of his feud with Pusha T. However, as the Scorpion star maintained in his song “Emotionless,” “I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world/I was hiding the world from my kid.”
As it currently stands, Drizzy has yet to weigh in on fans’ interpretation of the “Lost In Fire” lyrics. The Weeknd also hasn’t offered up any clarity. The fans of both the international stars, however, haven’t hesitated to share a few reactions to the lines.
“Drake vs the Weeknd is pretty much a Canadian civil war,” one Twitter user wrote as the song began circulating online. Fans elsewhere joined in on the conversation by sharing a hilarious collection of memes and gifs illustrating their own possible theories.
